Airbnb to double Dublin workforce with 100 new jobs

Online accommodation booking firm Airbnb is to double the number of people employed at its newly-opened European headquarters in Dublin, it was announced this morning.

The company announced 100 new positions at its offices in Ringsend's Watermarque Building, bringing the number of people it employs here to 200.

It is currently recruiting for customer experience and hospitality teams.

"We came to Dublin because it has hospitality in its DNA," said Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky.

"We have an amazing home in Dublin from which we’re supporting our community across Europe and I can’t wait to welcome another 100 people to join us.”

The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

"Today’s announcement that Airbnb, a massive internet name and a fast-growing global company, is expanding its operations in Dublin and creating 100 jobs is great news," said Jobs Minister Richard Bruton.

"I wish Airbnb every success with this project and look forward to working with them as they continue their jobs expansion in Ireland”.

Minister Bruton's comments were echoed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who said young Irish people "will be inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit behind the Airbnb story".

U2 frontman Bono - who met with the company at an IDA event in Davos earlier this year - described Airbnb as "a force to be reckoned with".

"We of course measure the recovery by jobs, that’s all that matters --- that our best and brightest do not have to leave to get work," the singer said.

"So Airbnb's arrival in Dublin Docks is very good news."

Founded in San Francisco in 2008, Airbnb offers online users a 'trusted community marketplace' to list and book accommodation in 192 countries around the world.
