32 convictions secured for corporate law breaches

The office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement secured 32 convictions last year for breaches of corporate law.

The office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement secured 32 convictions last year for breaches of corporate law.

In its latest annual report, the office says it also secured 20 disqualifications and one trading restriction during 2008.

A record amount of fines were imposed, totalling just over €46,000.

Elsewhere, the number of initial liquidators' reports received was up 42% to 406.

Speaking at the launch of the report, the Director of Corporate Enforcement, Paul Appleby, said he was growing increasingly concerned about company directors using their firm's assets for personal purposes.
