Woman waited more than five hours, while in labour, to vote

A woman was so desperate to vote in the US election on Tuesday she did so while in labour.

Galicia Malone from Dolton, Illinois, was having contractions five minutes apart when she went to her polling station to vote for the next US President - which saw Barack Obama re-elected for another four years - and the 21-year-old woman insists she wanted to set a good example for her unborn daughter.

Her labour began at 3am but she waited more than five hours for the polling station to open so she could vote, CBC Chicago reports.

She said: "I never voted before so this made a major difference in my life. And I wanted this to be a stepping stone for my daughter."
