A US software developer has reportedly outsourced his job to China for a fifth of his salary.

The staff member – who was allegedly paying the company in China one-fifth of his six-figure salary to do his own job for him, while he was checking out videos on YouTube and generally surfing the web during the working day – was only rumbled after Verizon carried out an audit on his company, BBC News reports.

Andrew Valentine, of operator Verizon, explained: "Authentication was no problem. He physically Fed-Ex’ed his RSA token to China so that the third-party contractor could log-in under his credentials during the workday.

"Evidence even suggested he had the same scam going across multiple companies in the area.

"It looked like he earned several hundred thousand dollars a year, and only had to pay the Chinese consulting firm about $50,000 (€37,616) annually."
