Your kids might think this is the ultimate excuse, but it has now been claimed by scientists that too many brussels sprouts are bad for you.

Doctors say the strong-favoured sprout might be best eaten in moderation after a man from Ayrshire in the UK was admitted to hospital close to Christmas last year.

Medical staff could not understand why his blood was clotting, until they realised he had been eating sprouts, which are rich in vitamin K.

The case has been published in an Australian medical journal.
