One in five British children has suffered from a phobia of school, a new study has revealed.
According to the surprise poll by ITV's 'This Morning' and the UK’s biggest parenting site Netmums, the condition sees children refuse to attend school because of emotional distress, but parents have claimed more than one-third of education establishments are unaware of it.
This Morning's Editor, Adam Vandermark said, "Our survey has shown that school phobia is obviously a huge problem and is sadly on the rise. Children must know there is help out there for them and I hope by talking about it and raising the issue This Morning can do some good."
Other findings to come out of the study include one in 25 per cent of parents have been accused of allowing their kids to truant.
What's more, kids aged between five to six and 10 to 11 are most likely to suffer from school phobia, which is also known as "school refusal".
