Charlie Naysmith found the ambergris - the technical term for such a substance thrown up by sperm whales - during a walk along on a beach near Bournemouth, South England, and he is expecting to make a pound of the chunk is expected to sell for as much as $10,000 (€7,950).

His father Alex is quoted by the Daily Echo newspaper as saying: "He is into nature and is really interested in it.

"We have discovered it is quite rare and are waiting for some more information from marine biology experts."

Charlie is now hoping perfume makers purchase the product as it is highly sought after due to its ability to prolong the scent of perfume.
