Woman who died next to Arsenal stadium was shot

A woman killed close to Arsenal’s football ground died of shot gun wounds, a post-mortem examination found.

The woman was found with severe injuries in Loraine Road, Holloway, north London at around 9.35am on Saturday, Scotland Yard said.

Despite efforts to save her she died at the scene, which is around 400 metres from Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said today: “A post mortem examination gave the cause of death as shot gun wounds.”

Police said that while they believe they know the identity of the victim, formal identification has not yet taken place.

A firearm was recovered by officers and will be forensically examined.

A 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.

It is believed the arrested man and the woman are known to each other, police said.
