Woman assaulted on Valentine's Day at Valentines Park

A woman was attacked on Valentine's Day as she walked through Valentines Park in London, police said.

The victim, who is in her 40s, was dragged to the ground in the park in Ilford, east London, at around 9am on Sunday.

She managed to fight off her attacker - a white man in his late 20s to early 30s with a big nose - who then fled, possibly in the direction of Gants Hill.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information on the attack and described the man as having a chubby face and light brown hair, grown to collar length.

He is thought to have been wearing a black padded coat, with maroon or purple across the shoulders, and carrying a black messenger type bag.

The suspect may have received injuries to his hands and face during the incident, Scotland Yard said.

Extra patrols are in the area and police have issued personal safety advice including warnings to avoid dark, isolated areas.
