Websites showing cover of Charlie Hedbo magazine banned
The debate over the freedom of expression continues.
The cover of the next edition of the satirical magazine Charlie Hedbo was released earlier this week. It shows a cartoon of the Prophet Mohamed.
Various News outlets worldwide have made decisions to publish, or not publish, the cover as part of the ongoing discourse in the wake of the tragic Paris Killings.
Today, a Turkish court has ordered the country’s telecommunications authority to ban access to web pages which show the controversial magazine cover.
The court in Diyarbakir, south-east Turkey, ordered the ban, the Anadolu Agency said.
Earlier, Turkish police stopped trucks leaving a newspaper’s printing centre and checked the paper’s content after it decided to print a selection of Charlie Hebdo caricatures.
