Residents in Tripoli are being advised not to drink the tap water, after two people were hospitalised with suspected poisoning.

Residents in Tripoli are being advised not to drink the tap water, after two people were hospitalised today with suspected poisoning.

It is feared that troops loyal to Muammar Gaddafi may have poisoned the water system in the Libyan capital.

Gaddafi is on the run as rebel forces occupy the grounds of his compound.

Recordings of Gaddafi have been played out on local TV and radio stations, claiming he left the complex for "tactical" reasons.
