Paramedics on an emergency call in England had the windscreen of their ambulance smashed with a brick as they treated a patient.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was treating a patient with severe abdominal pain at a property in Chipperfield Road in Birmingham at 4am today when the incident happened.
Paramedics discovered the damage when they returned to their vehicle. A second ambulance had to be called to the scene to take the patient to hospital.
Ambulance spokesman Nathan Hudson said: “This is an incredibly disappointing case which not only delayed a patient’s onward care in A&E but also means we have an ambulance off the road and unable to respond to 999 calls whilst it’s being repaired.
“Thankfully my staff weren’t hurt but they were understandably upset by the incident. Ambulance staff are here to help people in an emergency and it’s extremely sickening to see incidents such as this.”
West Midlands Police are investigating.
