US soldier killed by roadside bomb in Iraq

An American soldier from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division has been killed by a roadside bomb on a route security mission, the US command said today.

The name of the soldier, who was killed yesterday, was being withheld pending notification of the soldier’s family, according to the announcement.

The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division is a national guard unit based in Minnesota.

At least 2,600 US servicemen and women have died since the US-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003; of those, a little more than 2,000 have been killed in hostile action.
