The US Security Department is investigating after millions of Internet users were affected by cyber attacks on several major websites.

They include Twitter, Paypal and Spotify, as well as other customers of Dyn, which acts as a switchboard for online traffic.

It is not yet clear who is behind the attacks, but Wikileaks has asked any of its supporters who may be involved to stop.

Security expert Jay Kaplan said that hackers are targeting our devices - which can be vulnerable.

"Being that these devices are so prevalent in millions and millions of households, and the manufacturers are not necessarily locking these devices down, it makes it really easy for an attacker to take advantage of those vulnerabilities," he said.
