America’s largest Muslim advocacy organisation has complained after police in Henderson, Nevada, detained seven men praying in a shopping centre car park, saying they were acting suspiciously.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations’ spokeswoman Munira Syeda said: “Our main concern is the police department looking at praying and the way they looked as probable cause for investigating those men. They did nothing illegal.”

Todd Rasmussen, a police spokesman in the Las Vegas suburb, said there would be an investigation, but declined to comment on the incident.
