A man found dead at his home when a sado-masochistic sex session apparently went wrong has been named.

Robert Garnett, 35, was discovered by police at his flat in Lambeth Road, Kennington, south London, on Sunday.

A member of his family contacted officers when he failed to turn up for work and they were unable to contact him.

The Evening Standard reported that he was found dressed in a head-to-toe latex suit and had wrapped himself in a rubber “body bag”.

It is thought he became overheated while trapped in the layers of latex, was unable to get back out and fell unconscious.

An officer at Southwark coroner’s court said a post-mortem examination found he had died from the swelling of fluids in his brain.

She said an inquest into his death was opened on Wednesday and was adjourned until March 22.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman confirmed that officers were called to the flat on Sunday at 6.15am.

The death was not being treated as suspicious, she said.

She added: “Police were alerted when a member of the public called police concerned that a family member had failed to turn up at his place of work.”

Latex bags, outfits and hoods are easily available from internet stores for people in the UK fetish scene.

They are sold with warnings highlighting the risk of suffocation or overheating and can cost as much as £150 (€229).
