Twelve people have been killed in a suicide attack on an army patrol in northern Iraq, officials said today.
A police officer said the suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into a passing army patrol in the northern city of Mosul, killing nine soldiers and three civilians.
He added that 14 other people, included four civilians, were injured.
A medical official confirmed the casualty figure.
Mosul, 220 miles (360km) north-west of Baghdad, is one of Iraq’s major flashpoints.
A recent wave of bloodshed has killed more than 2,000 Iraqis since the start of April, the deadliest outbreak of violence in five years.
