Three teenage girls trick-or-treating in costume have been hit by a vehicle and killed while on a pedestrian crossing at junction in southern California.
The driver fled after the crash near a primary school after dark on Halloween.
Santa Ana police Cpl Anthony Bertagna says police had no immediate description of the vehicle or suspect, but police were questioning several witnesses.
Officials said the girls were aged 13 to 15. Two were declared dead immediately and a third died as paramedics prepared to take her to a hospital.
The girls’ identities and exact ages were not immediately clear, and police were trying to identify and find their parents.
