Nearly 150,000 homes and businesses are still without power following a massive snowstorm that swept across the North East of America.

Nearly 150,000 homes and businesses are still without power following a massive snowstorm that swept across the North East of America.

Most power cuts are in hard-hit Massachusetts where more than 126,000 customers were still in the dark, down from more than 400,000.

The storm started on Friday night and dumped up to three feet of snow and knocked out power to more than 650,000 homes and businesses in eight states, from Maine to Pennsylvania

Most power has been restored in New York, down from nearly 12,000 without. On snow-blanketed Long Island, 193 customers were still in the dark.

Meanwhile in Mississippi residents were waking to a day of removing trees, patching roofs and giving thanks for their survival after being battered by tornadoes. More than a dozen in the state were injured.

In hard-hit Hattiesburg a twister moved along one of the city’s main streets and damaged buildings.
