Thousands evacuated from Vietnamese coast ahead of typhoon

Vietnam is evacuating more than 180,000 people from coastal areas in the path of Typhoon Nari.

The storm passed over the Philippines over the weekend, leaving 13 people dead.

It is expected to hit the central Vietnamese coast early on Tuesday morning with sustained winds of up to 80 mph, causing possible flooding and damage to property.

Disaster officials said 10 hotels popular with foreign tourists close to the town of Hoi An had been ordered to shift their guests to hotels inland.

Officials aim to evacuate 180,000 residents to schools and public buildings in central provinces.
