A suicide bomber killed seven people – including five children – while trying to attack a security post near an elementary school in eastern Afghanistan.
Dozens of people were also reported wounded, including schoolchildren.
Yacoub Khan, the deputy police chief of Kunar province, said that one soldier and one private security guard were also among those killed in the attack on Sunday.
Mr Khan says 25 people were wounded, but Dr Abdul Rahman, a doctor at a nearby hospital, put the figure at around 35.
