Strauss-Kahn rape case ruling due24/04/2012 - 07:06:37
A New York City judge is expected to rule by the end of the week on whether to throw out a hotel maid’s lawsuit claiming that former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn sexually assaulted her.
Court system spokesman David Bookstaver says a decision is expected by Friday in the housekeeper’s Bronx civil case.
She says Mr Strauss-Kahn tried to rape her in his Manhattan hotel suite last May. He has denied doing anything violent in their encounter.
Prosecutors dropped related criminal charges last summer.
Mr Strauss-Kahn’s lawyers argue he has diplomatic immunity from the lawsuit because of his IMF post, which he resigned shortly after his arrest.
The maid’s lawyers say the immunity claim does not hold water and note that the IMF said French banker Mr Strauss-Kahn did not have immunity while on the personal trip.
