Soham officer to stand trial
30/07/2004 - 10:21:58The detective who was liaison officer to the family of Soham murder victim Jessica Chapman will stand trial at the Old Bailey today.
Det Con Brian Stevens is accused of conspiring to pervert the course of justice alongside 32-year-old Louise Austin, an administrator with the Crown Prosecution Service.
They are alleged to have concocted a false alibi for Stevens while he was facing other criminal charges.
The joint charge, under Section 1 of the Criminal Law Act 1977, reads: “Between May 1st 2003 and August 21 2003 you conspired together to pervert the course of public justice by agreeing to create for Brian Joseph Stevens a false alibi in relation to criminal charges against Brian Joseph Stevens alleged to have been committed during the time to which the alibi related.”
