A suicide bomber rammed a truck loaded with explosives into a police station in Pakistan today, killing seven passers-by.

Senior police officer Abdullah Khan said 26 people were wounded in the attack at Saddar police station in Kohat region.

Twin suicide attacks in the same region yesterday targeted refugees who were fleeing the Orakzai tribal area where Pakistan's army is conducting an operation against militants. That attack killed 41 people as they lined up to register for food and relief supplies.

Officer Dilawar Khan said the victims of the police station bombing were mostly civilians. Six of the wounded were police.

Dilawar Khan said the truck was loaded with up to 250kgs of explosives.

A child was among the seven killed in the police station attack today, police said later.

The truck struck a concrete barrier in front of the building, which was heavily damaged as was an adjoining school.

Qari Hussain, a militant commander and alleged trainer of suicide bombers, claimed responsibility for the attack on the police station.

Hussain said the bombing was in response to an army attack on a militant facility in Wana being used as a hospital in which many were killed or injured.

"Such attacks will continue in revenge for the deaths of our fellows," he said.
