Rebel groups in Syria claim to have broken city seige

In Syria, fierce fighting is continuing around Aleppo, where rebel groups claim to have broken the siege of the city.

It follows a counter attack which has left more than 500 fighters dead.

Some pro-government media outlets have cast doubt on the claims.

But Wael Aleji from the Syrian Network For Human Rights has said he has had confirmation from credible sources on the ground: “They have confirmed that the siege has been broken and the opposition forces have managed to open up a narrow passage.

“It is still vulnerable, but they are working on widening it.”
