Pakistan jails 10 for life over attack on Malala Yousafzai

A Pakistani court has sentenced 10 militants to life in prison for their involvement in the 2012 attack on teenage activist Malala Yousafzai.

Public prosecutor Sayed Naeem said the court announced the ruling today at an undisclosed location because of security reasons.

Malala was shot in the head by the Pakistani Taliban in the Swat valley for advocating education for women.

Yousafzai received the Nobel Peace Prize for activism in 2014.

The 17-year-old won world acclaim for her campaign and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year.

Pakistan is also seeking the arrest of Mullah Fazlullah, the Taliban leader who ordered the attack.

Pakistan’s military arrested the 10 men last year.

Malala was initially treated in Pakistan, but was later flown to a hospital in Britain, where she now lives with her family.

Mr Naeem said: ``Each militant got 25 years in jail. It is life in prison for the 10 militants who were tried by an anti-terrorist court.

In Pakistan, 25 years is considered a life sentence.
