Nitrogen leak kills two in South Korean LG plant

Two people died and four others were taken ill after a nitrogen leak at the LG Display factory north of the South Korean capital, Seoul, the company said today.

The technology giant said in a statement that the victims, employed by an LG contractor, were carrying out regular repair and maintenance work when the nitrogen leak happened soon after midday at the factory in Paju city.

It said one of the four people taken ill was in a serious but not life-threatening condition.

The factory where the accident occurred, known as P8, manufactures LCD screens for large-size televisions.

The company expressed regret over the deaths.

It said it will co-operate with authorities to find out the cause of the leak.
