Newsreader sacked for calling China President "11"

A news presenter for an Indian TV channel has been fired after she referred to China's president, Xi Jinping as "11 Jinping" - apparently mistaking his name for a Roman numeral.

The Chinese leader has just left India after a three-day visit to the country, where he signed more than a dozen agreements to push trade and investment between the two Asian giants.

The presenter for the Doordarshan news channel made the mistake on Wednesday night while she read a news bulletin.

She was dismissed afterwards, according to an official at the station who said the presenter was a "casual" employee and not a regular member of staff.
