Forensic experts in Italy are seeking more time to conclude their review of DNA evidence in the appeal hearing of Amanda Knox, lawyer said today.

American student Knox and Italian co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito are appealing against their convictions for murder and sexual assault convictions over the 2007 death of 21-year-old British student Meredith Kercher, who shared an apartment with Knox in Perugia.

The independent experts appointed by the appeals court in Perugia were originally scheduled to conclude their review on Monday, and report to the court on May 21. But they have asked for a delay of about 40 days, according to the Ansa news agency.

The request was confirmed today by Francesco Maresca, a lawyer representing the Kercher family, of Coulsdon, south London, and by Luca Maori, a lawyer for Sollecito.
