The suspected mastermind of the Paris terror attacks was not among eight people arrested during a police operation in Saint Denis early today.

More than 100 heavily-armed officers stormed the apartment in search of Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who had previously been thought to be in Syria.

Paris prosecutor Francois Molins has confirmed two suspects were killed, and 5,000 rounds were fired.

"The investigations are underway, both for identifying dead terrorists and those who have been arrested but also all those who are likely to have been involved in this campaign of attacks either in French territory or in Syria."
