Man rescued from chimney after friends lock him out

Locked out? I know, I'll just go down the chimney. Yep, that's the plan.

Man rescued from chimney after friends lock him out

A man has had to be rescued from a chimney cavity after two friends locked him out of the house for a joke.

Firefighters were called to the scene in north Phoenix at about 3am after the unnamed man became stuck in the chimney, and used power drills and sledgehammers to punch a hole for him to climb out. It took them about 30 minutes.

The Phoenix fire department agreed the 23-year-old man made "what proved to be a bad decision" by attempting to re-enter the house through the chimney.

Video footage shows the man clambering out of the chimney cavity after the firefighters instruct him to stand up and back so they can weaken the casing using power drills, then punch through with a sledgehammer.

He emerges blinking, topless, covered in soot and, to our mind, a little embarrassed.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution.
