Man killed in daylight shooting as Toronto fans watch Ireland's Euro 2012 match
19/06/2012 - 08:31:56Police are searching for a suspect after a fatal daylight shooting outside an ice cream shop in Toronto's Little Italy district, where dozens of soccer fans had gathered to watch a Euro 2012 game.
Police said one person was pronounced dead at the scene and another was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Toronto Police Constable Wendy Drummond said reports of gunshots came in at about 3.30pm local time yesterday at the Sicilian Sidewalk Café.
The shots rang out as football fans had gathered to watch Ireland play Italy.
Constable Drummond urged the crowds of fans spilling out of the area's cafes following the game to respect the crime scene.
Gunfire at a food court at Toronto's most prominent mall earlier this month left two dead and several bystanders injured.
Police have said the three men all belonged to the same gang, but believe the shooting was motivated by a personal dispute.
