'Kindness book' author admits: I shot myself
15/06/2012 - 18:42:10A man who claimed to be the victim of a drive-by shooting along a rural US road while writing a book called 'Kindness of America' has confessed to shooting himself, authorities have said.
Ray Dolin had said he was travelling through Montana when he was shot in the arm by a passing driver.
But Valley County Undersheriff Vernon Buerkle said that Mr Dolin has acknowledged that he shot himself.
Authorities believe he carried out the shooting as a desperate act of self-promotion.
No charges were immediately filed against Mr Dolin. The case remains under investigation, and Mr Buerkle says charges are possible.
Authorities had arrested a 52-year-old man in the shooting, but on Thursday they dropped the charge of felony assault against Lloyd Christopher Danielson III.
Mr Dolin could not be reached for comment.
