Lightning and strong winds kill 13
10/04/2005 - 10:47:55Thirteen people were killed and more than 20,000 houses destroyed by rain and hail storms in southern China, the government said today.
About three-inches of rain has fallen and hail up to one-inch in diameter has pounded 20 cities in southern China’s Sichuan province since Friday, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
The fatalities were caused by lightning strikes and collapsing houses, Xinhua said.
One person remained missing and at least 30 were injured, it said.
Provincial Governor Zhang Zhongwei has ordered a relief effort for the worst affected areas, it said.
