Fathers 4 Justice hold St Paul's Easter protest
Two fathers’ rights protesters were arrested tonight after scaling St Paul’s Cathedral in London in an Easter weekend stunt.
The Fathers 4 Justice campaigners, dressed in monks’ habits and carrying crosses, climbed to the dome of the London landmark at around 8am today.
A City of London Police spokesman said they came down at about 6.40pm and were arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and criminal damage.
He added: “They came down escorted by officers and have gone to a City of London police station.
“The protesters have all dispersed as well.”
During the protest, the pair unfurled a distinctive purple banner which said “In the Name of the Father” and “Fathers 4 Justice”.
Officers erected a cordon below the pair to protect passers-by from any debris that might have been dislodged.
Other officers went on the roof to try to resolve the incident.
The cathedral remained open, although visitors were asked to use a different entrance from the usual West Door.
Fathers 4 Justice spokesman Matt O’Connor earlier said the men would be on the cathedral until Easter Sunday.
Asked why they picked St Paul’s, he added: “It is to do with Easter and the fact a lot of dads will not see their kids this Easter.”
