Woman survives 60ft bridge plunge
14/04/2004 - 09:26:17A woman was recovering in hospital today after surviving a 60-foot fall from a motorway bridge.
Police say witnesses saw the 37-year-old woman jump from the M5 viaduct over the River Exe, near Exeter in England, yesterday.
She was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with suspected spinal injuries, which were described as serious but not life-threatening.
As the tide was out the woman, from Exeter, landed in only around four feet of water.
A passing dog walker and two boatyard workers pulled her out of the river and called the emergency services.
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the fall was not being treated as suspicious.
He added: “It would appear that no-one else was involved and she went off the bridge of her own volition.”
