Intruders wearing balaclavas terrify boy, 12, accosted at home

A 12-year-old boy has been accosted in his own home by two balaclava-clad intruders, police say.

The child was at home on Alston Avenue, Fallowfield, in Manchester, England, about 6.30pm last Saturday when he heard a ball hit his bedroom window and the burglar alarm sounded.

South Manchester police say the boy’s mother was sleeping in another part of the house, and the boy called his brothers, who said they would return home.

Twenty minutes later the boy reported hearing a loud bang at the front door, followed by footsteps, before two men burst into his room demanding to know where they could find money.

The boy – still on the line to an older brother – shouted for help as the men grabbed his arm and tried to wrest his phone away from him.

The commotion woke the child’s mother, who went to investigate, and as the intruders ran downstairs they saw that the child’s brothers had returned home and fled.

Detective Sergeant Nicola Walton of South Manchester division said: “Thankfully the boy was not hurt, but it was a terrifying ordeal for a young boy and he was very distressed.

“If you believe you saw men matching the above description in the area at the time, or have any information, please contact police on the numbers below.”
