Iberia workers clash with police; hundreds of flights cancelled

Strikers at Spanish airline Iberia clashed with police at Madrid-Barajas airport today as they launched a five-day action against job cuts. The strike has resulted in hundreds of flight cancellations.

Thousands of strikers crowded outside Terminal Four and tried to force their way into the building.

Police used batons to keep the protestors back and at least one man was arrested.

Iberia has scrapped 415 flights across Spain and Europe for the week, including 81 today.

This week's action is the first of a series of three five-day strikes to protest at plans to cut 3,800 jobs.
