At least three people have been shot dead and several others injured after a gunman opened fire in the canteen of a Swiss factory.

At least three people have been shot dead and several others injured after a gunman opened fire in the canteen of a Swiss factory.

Police in Lucerne said in the shooting occurred shortly after 9am local time at the premises of Kronospan, a wood processing company in the small town of Menznau.

The area has been sealed off and the local Neue Luzerner Zeitung newspaper said that the shooter opened fire in the company canteen.

Swiss news website 20min.ch said police confirmed three deaths – including the attacker – and said seven people were injured, some seriously.

Kronospan has around 450 employees. It was not clear who the shooter was or what the motive might have been
