An ambitious plan is underway to re-build one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

The statue of the Colossus of Rhodes loomed over the Greek harbour for 52 years before being struck down by an earthquake.

Now a group wants to re-build the 400 foot tall bronze and iron statue saying it would create many jobs in the stricken Greek economy in the process.

The project would cost an estimated €240m.

Reconstruction plans have been put forward by scientists in Greece, Spain, Italy and the UK.

It is expected the project would bring millions of euros to the economy thorough tourism.
