The International Court of Justice opened hearings in The Hague, Netherlands, today on a suit by Bosnia accusing Serbia of genocide.

The International Court of Justice opened hearings in The Hague, Netherlands, today on a suit by Bosnia accusing Serbia of genocide.

This is the first time an entire nation has faced trial for humanity’s worst crime.

Although individual Bosnian Serbs have been convicted on genocide charges, the world court will hear lawyers argue whether Serbia can be held responsible for the actions of its allies in the neighbouring republic and its own leaders during the brutal secessionist war in the early 1990s.
