Floods in Germany leave at least three dead

Three people are thought to have died after floods struck south-west Germany.

Town council officials in Schwaebisch Gmuend said in a statement early on Monday that a firefighter died as he tried to rescue someone from floodwaters near the town's railway station.

The person he was trying to save is also believed to have died.

Police say the body of a third victim was found in a flooded garage in Weissbach near the city of Heilbronn.

Southern and western Germany, along with other parts of Europe, experienced heavy rainstorms over the weekend.
