Five dead in attack on home of Iraqi government worker
Five people have been killed in an attack on the home of a government employee, Iraqi police said today.
Diyala provincial police spokesman Colonel Ghalib al-Karkhi said gunmen broke into the house of Interior Ministry worker Tariq Mohammed in the city of Baqouba and shot him dead, along with his 18-year-old son.
Minutes later, a bomb planted by the gunmen exploded as neighbours rushed to the scene of the shooting. The blast killed three people and injured five others.
Baqouba, the provincial capital of Diyala, is 35 miles (60km) north-east of Baghdad.
Although the level of violence in Iraq is nowhere near what it was five years ago when the country almost descended into civil war, deadly attacks on government employees and security forces are still common.
