Five dead after torrential rains in Queensland

Five people have died after torrential rains in the Australian state of Queensland.

Brisbane and the surrounding areas were hit with 12 inches of rain in just three hours.

More than 1,500 homes and businesses are without power.

Inspector Lee Jeffries said there were too many people trying to get through flooded roads.

He said: "The tragedy is people are still taking risks to try to get through (the floods). I understand they are trying to get home, or reach a family member, but it's sad people are still taking risks to try to cross flooded roads."
