Fishermen discover alligators eating man's body

Police divers in South Florida have recovered a body that was being eaten by a pair of alligators.

Davie police captain Dale Engle said the man's body, found in a canal in Southwest Ranches, about 20 miles west of Fort Lauderdale, on the eastern edge of the Everglades, appeared to have been there for a long time, according to The Sun Sentinel.

Capt Engle said officers, who were called to the gruesome scene by two fishermen yesterday, scared the reptiles away from the body, but they lingered nearby as they tried to recover it.

A dive team was called in, backed up by police armed with AR-15 rifles ready to shoot any approaching alligators, as well as an alligator trapper from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, The Sun Sentinel said.
