Eiffel Tower bathed in red, white and blue

France’s gentle healing process took another step forward tonight as its greatest landmark, the Eiffel Tower, returned to action with a patriotic twist.

The tourist attraction, closed to the public since Friday’s terrorist attacks which resulted in the death of at least 129 people, returned to service today.

And, in a Gallic twist, the cherished monument was illuminated with the country’s trademark red, white and blue as dusk fell.

The words “fluctuat nec mergitur”, the city’s Latin motto, meaning “tossed but not sunk”, were also beamed onto a section of the tower.
