Labour leader Ed Miliband is to stand down as party leader following sweeping losses in Scotland and with David Cameron close to an overall majority, according to reports.

Labour leader Ed Miliband is to stand down as party leader following sweeping losses in Scotland and with David Cameron close to an overall majority, according to reports.

Labour is currently down 26 seats on its 2010 tally.

Mr Miliband arrived at Labour headquarters at about 9.40pm, where party staff and journalists had gathered.

Mr Miliband did not speak on his way into Labour headquarters, and was greeted with applause by assembled supporters.
