Ebola vaccine trials begin in Sierra Leone

Trials for an Ebola vaccine have gotten underway in Sierra Leone.

A unique biometric kit which scans the eyes of volunteers and takes their finger prints will be used in conjunction with the vaccine.

It is hoped the new procedures will make sure the right people get the correct medication in the region.

Chief Executive of World Vision Ireland Helen Keogh has said the vaccine will be given in two stages.

“Well it is very very important that the same person who receives the first vaccination gets the booster," Ms Keough said.

"As you can imagine the whole thing would fall apart if these were different people so in order to ensure that this occurs we are using this methodology so there would be absolutely no ambiguity whatsoever.”
