Descendants of Jewish people to be reimbursed 'late rents'

Amsterdam is to repay the families of Jewish people who were fined for late rents during World War II.

AFP reports the fines were imposed on Jews who had escaped concentration camp and are believed to have cost around €1,800.

The issue came to light in April 2013 when a student published archive documents.

The city says the payments were unfairly collected and descendants can apply to be reimbursed from today.
