A couple who fell down stairs one after the other died in an “extremely bizarre, albeit tragic, incident”, police have said.
Detectives investigating the deaths of a 67-year-old man and his 66-year-old partner said there are “no suspicious circumstances” surrounding their deaths.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said the pair were found dead at the bottom of the stairs in their Failsworth home on April 15.
It is thought the man was fatally injured when he fell down the stairs, while the woman died after also falling when coming to his aid.
He said: “Following an investigation into their deaths, including Home Office post-mortems, detectives are now satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances.”
Detective Inspector Lewis Hughes said: “This is an extremely bizarre, albeit tragic, incident and our thoughts are with the couple’s family and friends at what is clearly a very upsetting and distressing time for them.”
